Our summer worship series is “Reveling in Resistance”. With reflections from Revelation and practices that build resilience, we welcome God’s invitation to resist oppression with courage, joy, and imagination.
Each week we will spend time in a passage from Revelation, and then learn about a spiritual practice that will help ground and strengthen us in these times.
JUNE 7 Faithful Resistance • Revelation 1:4-18
A vision of the risen Jesus affirms that faithfulness often ignites conflict with the status quo.
JUNE 14 Worshipful Resistance • Revelation 4:1-5:7
A vision of perpetual worship challenges us to examine how we ascribe worth.
JUNE 21 Witnessing Resistance • Revelation 7:9-17
A vision of martyrs from every nation prompts us to hear and join those who are oppressed.
JULY 6 Discerning Resistance • Revelation 13:1-18
A troubling vision of beasts tests our wisdom to sift through coded language and attractive lies.
JULY 12 Costly Resistance • Revelation 18:1-5, (18:11-13), 19:1-8
A vision of God’s triumph over evil also calls us to account for perpetuating oppression.
JULY 19 Hopeful Resistance • Revelation 21:1-7, 22-27, 22:1-5
A vision of the new creation encourages us to witness and work for justice and peace.
JULY 26 To the Angel of FCC • Revelation 2 & 3
Instead of a sermon, the congregation is invited to ponder what comfort and challenge the Spirit is speaking to FCC. As a large group or in small groups, there will be an opportunity to consider the seven messages the risen Christ has for “the angel” of each church. Then all ages can contribute art and words to a message to the angel of FCC.
