So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! — 2 Corinthians 5:17

The new year always brings opportunity to move beyond our limitations…to find new beginnings and be better than we were before. We use this cultural word-play in our series title to remember that the most basic transforming experiences of our faith — communion and baptism — are the starting points for life “beyond” our limitations. Let’s make this year one of amazing transformations — for our lives, for our community, for our world!

It’s been almost a year, but SpringHouse is looking to get back on a schedule for switching sanctuaries. While it will not be quite as often as it had been before Covid, we are looking at likely 2-3 times a year for at least a couple of years.

Mark your calendars for Sunday January 7. We have decided to try and do sanctuary switching following worship & fellowship. We will begin moving our stuff downstairs to the Garden Sanctuary. Many hands make light work!

There will be a gathering to celebrate and remember Mary Lou Norman on Friday, December 30, from 1-3 pm, at Parkshore Assisted Living, 3633 Park Center Blvd, St Louis Park, MN.

“Like a shepherd you feed your flock, gathering the lambs and holding them close, and leading mother ewes with gentleness.”

 — Isaiah 40:11, The Inclusive Bible

Advent can be filled with worry about finding the perfect Christmas gifts. Deep down we want people in our lives to know they are special and that we love them. But sometimes we overlook the greatest gift of all… our very presence. Our spiritual ancestors were also worried — often about survival in the midst of political occupation. And the response of the scriptures is “the Holy Living One is with you.” Like a shepherd who never leaves the flock, we are held close. This season, we are invited to be the gift of presence for our loved ones, for our communities, for those who need it most. The series begins on Dec. 3 and will run through Dec. 31.

FCC’s Advent giving project this year will be collecting personal care items for Groveland Foodshelf.

Many people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity also experience food insecurity and struggle to meet their basic needs with limited income and rising cost of food. Additional food stamp benefits (SNAP) that were provided during the height of the pandemic have ended. Align Mpls is highlighting Groveland Food Shelf for their current campaign. Our Mission and Outreach team is asking for donations of the following to Groveland Food Shelf for the guests that are served there. These essentials cannot be purchased with SNAP funds.

  • Toilet Paper
  • Bar Soap
  • Body Wash
  • Toothpaste
  • Dish Soap
  • Laundry Detergent
  • Toothbrushes
  • Feminine Hygiene Products
  • Shampoo and Conditioner

Items can be left under the Christmas tree in the sanctuary. Please have them under the tree by Christmas. If you wish to instead donate money towards this project, please use Groveland Food Shelf in the Givelfy app or in the memo line of your check. If you are donating in honor or memory of someone, click here to fill out this form.

The Advent Study begins on Wednesday, November 29, at 7 pm on zoom. The study is based on Amy Ogden’s book, “Right Here, Right Now: The Practice of Christian Mindfulness.” We will focus on what it means to be truly “present” to God, to ourselves, to each other and to the world. The study includes videos and reflection. All are welcome to join! Zoom Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85636414854

Have you sung in or wish you could sing in your church choir, community choir, or school choir? Did you stop singing at some point? Maybe the pandemic, or life just got in the way? Maybe your voice changed during menopause or hormone therapy and you’re just not sure how to start singing again. Just in time for the holidays, join our soprano section leader, Deanna Davis, for Jump Start Your Choral Voice, on Saturday, December 3 at SpringHouse.
