Open/Close Menu An Open & Affirming, Welcoming Community of Faith in the Heart of the Twin Cities: Come to a place where you can explore, be curious, and ask questions.

We are a multi-faith coalition of clergy representing more than 35,000 Minnesotans from
congregations across the city of Minneapolis.

In the wake of last week’s horrific shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, we are
collectively heartbroken, angry, and shaken. Our prayers are with the victims, their families,
and the entire Muslim community as they grieve this devastating act of hatred and violence.
Our faith communities are sources of comfort and strength and should never be a target of
violence. An attack on one house of worship is attack on religious freedom everywhere.

In these deeply troubling times, we stand united against the growing tide of bigotry and fear
that has taken root too many times in our communities. Words that dehumanize and divide
can fuel acts of violence, and we cannot allow cruelty and intolerance to become part of our
lives. Together, we are committed to confronting hatred wherever it appears and to building
faith communities rooted in dignity, compassion, and respect. Our sacred texts teach us to
live in peace and unity with one another, despite our differences:
-God created diverse communities so that we might come to know one another, not turn
against one another. (Qur’an 49:13)
-How good and pleasant it is when neighbors live together in unity. (Psalm 133:1)
-Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. (Matthew 5:9)

As interfaith religious leaders, we have worked to maintain connections through thoughtful
and respectful dialogue, even when we disagree. Such conversations between people of faith
offer a powerful alternative to division and hostility.
We urge every Minnesotan to renew their commitment to mutual respect and
understanding—a shared responsibility that begins in our houses of worship, our
neighborhoods, and our homes.
