SUMMARY:UMW AR/PR Team - Critical Race Theory Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Join the UMW Anti-Racism/Pro-Reconciliation Team for a discussion on Critical Race Theory. We will be joined by Dr. Kesho Scott.\n\nDr. Scott is an internationally renowned Diversity Trainer/Consultant\, an Associate Professor of American Studies and Sociology at Grinnell College\, and an award-winning writer. She was a founding member of International Capacity Building Services\, a cultural competency training team that specializes in facilitating both “unlearning isms” and Human Rights workshops as well various seminars and training programs that have been successfully adapted for audiences throughout the United States and abroad.\n\nIn over two decades of developing unlearning racism work\, Dr. Scott has led hundreds of professional and community-based workshops; she has been keynote speaker for national conferences as well as a participant on several dozen national and local radio debates\, discussions and public service announcements. Grounded in this extensive experience\, Dr. Scott developed an “affirmative duty” technique for facilitating unlearning racism workshops. It is a method that helps shift participants’ awareness\, commitment and skill-set toward being actively and personally anti-racist and anti-sexist\, rather than remaining merely passive observers.\n\nDr. Scott’s Education and Degrees: B.A. Sociology\, Wayne State University\, 1974 M.A. Political Sociology\, University of Detroit\, 1975 Ph.D. American Studies\, University of Iowa\, 1988\nRegistration is required for this gathering:\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/…/tZUpcuugpj8oH93HRICeIztLfCSlM…\nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

SUMMARY:ICOM/SpringHouse Immigration Vigil
DESCRIPTION:SpringHouse Ministry Center is co-sponsoring the next ICOM (Interfaith Coalition on Immigration) vigil at the Bishop Whipple Federal Building on Tuesday\, August11 at 7:30 am. Please wear masks and stand 6 feet apart. \n\nLimited to 40 participants. Please RSVP here: https://bit.ly/3gtHHzA \nTHEME: FREE THEM ALL \nCosponsored by: Springhouse Ministry Center\nFeatured Guest speaker: Minnesota Freedom Fund Representative \nMinnesota prisons hold approximately 10\,000 inmates\, including hundreds of ICE detainees\, and all of these detainees and inmates are vulnerable to COVID-19 due to overcrowding\, inmate movement and a lack of testing. We also knew that it was just a matter of time before COVID-19 would infect ICE detainees in Minnesota and now two ICE detainees in the Freeborn County jail have tested positive. Among the organizations leading the way on this issue is the Minnesota Freedom Fund. They call on elected officials to release more people and stop new admissions. We are honored that a Minnesota Freedom Fund representative will speak at the August vigil.
