Part Time Childcare Worker

Position Description

Position Title:  Childcare Worker

Supervision:  Reports to and is supervised jointly by all three pastors.

Congregational Context:  We are progressive congregations on the edge of Uptown, collaborating in ministry and yet rooted in our respective congregational and denominational history and identity.  Salem, Lyndale, and First Christian Church, base ministries from a renewed, shared Ministry Center called SpringHouse Ministry Center.  We usually worship separately, but many programs are shared jointly such as Children, Youth, Young Adults and some of our justice works.  More information about the hiring congregations is on our web sites at www.discoversalem.org,  www.lyndaleucc.org and www.fccmpls.org.

Responsibilities:  To care for children under 5 years of age and supervise children of elementary school age, whose families participate in worship and activities at SpringHouse Ministry Center on Sunday mornings and other special occasions/worship services, such as Holy Week services and Christmas Eve services.

Tasks:

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times
  • Interact with all children in a positive and age-appropriate manner
  • Providing care for children under 5 that includes age appropriate play
  • Providing supervision for elementary school age children while they play games, do crafts, and/or play with younger children
  • Openness to/comfortable with a Christian church environment
  • Organize, clean and store toys and supplies in the Nursery and the Squiggle Space
  • Support children’s emotional and social development
  • Communicate with families about any needs or issues that arise
  • Observe all rules and regulations

Job Qualifications:

  • Must be high school aged or older (candidates over the age of 18 must pass a criminal background check)
  • Must be dependable and prompt, with a positive disposition and ability to welcome families
  • Preferred prior experience working with children
  • Good communication skills

Hours:  Regular hours are Sunday mornings from 9 am – 12 pm. Additional opportunities for hours will become available for special occasions/activities and/or holiday worship services (i.e. Christmas Eve and Holy Week)

Wage:   $20/hour
